Design a Magazine style Wordpress layout + Offering the coded theme-MagaBlue

Today I`m offering you something special.A tutorial of a clean and modern wordpress layout + The coded theme of the layout.

In the tutorial we`re gonna create a PSD layout in Photoshop for a clean Magazine style Wordpress theme,which may fits for any type of tasks,from a webdesign blog to a portfolio one and even for a business one.

The coded Wordpress theme is compatible up to 2.8.4 wordpress version and has a modern web typeface.The theme has standard 2 columns layout and is easy to be convertible as you want,as the PSD source of is also included in the package,or just follow the tutorial.

The demo is what you see.My current theme is the same with the theme I`m offering to you.

The tutorial:

Step 1:Download the 960 grid system template.

First step is downloading the 960 grid system template,which is in big lines,a system which allow us to divide the layout in equal columns.I`m using it in all the layouts I create because it has the guides already drawn.You can find it on the 960.gs official website.Unpack the zip file and look for PSD templates. You will see that there are two different types of templates: one is 12_col and the other one is 16_col.We`ll use the one named 12_col because we`ll divide it in 2 parts:the content and the sidebar.The content is twice the sidebar,so we`ll have 3 parts-two for the content and one for the sidebar.

So,open the 960_grid_12_col.psd into Photoshop.

Step 2

You can see that the image has some pink vertical stripes,to evidence those 12 columns,but we want to get rid of them.For this,hide the group named 12_col_grid.

Now we are ready to move on.

Step 3:Creating the header

To create the header,select the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle at the top of the canvas.Mine is 175px.

After,draw another rectangle of 145px high and fill it with a blue color.

Now select the rectangle tool and set it to paths.Then draw a path of 115px high but leave a top-margin of 30px above.

With the Gradient Tool(G) and a black to transparent gradient,with the opacity of 30%,draw a shadow at the top of the selection.

Now select the Line Tool and draw a 1px line with the same blue color.

Change the white color of the background with a gray one.

Step 4:Creating the top button bar

This step is creating the button bar of the header.So,draw a rectangle at the bottom of the header,over that black area,then add him a gray to white gradient.

Then add two lines:a white line above the button bar and a gray line,darker than the background,at the bottom of the button bar.

If you1re still confused,follow the images.Until now,we draw the next elements:

Until now,you should have something like this:

Step 5:Creating the search bar

Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool,set a radius of 5px and draw a rectangle in the right part of the header.Then add a gray to white gradient and a search icon.I did a search on the internet for one.You may do the same.Place it like in the image:

Step 6:Adding the buttons

With the Type Tool(T),add some text links to the top and bottom of the header.

Step 7:My logo

In this step I added my own logo,a logo created in 1 minute using some blending options.

Now the header is finished.

Step 8:Creating the post

Now I`m gonna show you the steps I took for creating the post.

Select the Rectangle Tool and create a rectangle with the width of 650px.The height may vary,in relation with the content of the post.But as an idea,it`s not bigger than 350px.Give the rectangle a gray color,#cecece.

Now duplicate this layer and give it a gray to white gradient and an inside stroke.The inside stroke is very important in creating the desired effect.You`ll see in the next image what I`m talking about.

Step 9:Adding the thumbnail

Now add a thumbnail.It doesn`t matter which dimensions are.

Then create a fancy outside stroke around the thumbnail image.You may do this by Ctrl+Clicking the thumbnail(selecting the thumbnail) and expand it with 5px (Select->Modify->Expand),then filling the selected area with white color and giving it a black stroke of 1px.

Now add some content to the post.For the small icons,you may go for a search on the internet.

Step 10:Social icons.

Download those Social Icons(link) and add them to our project.I used the 32×32px icons.

Step 11:The “Read More” button

To create a beautiful “Read more” button,select the Rounded Rectangle tool and with a radius of 7px,draw a button of 100×23px.Place it right bottom the post area.Then add the next blending options:

The button should look like this one:

Add some custom shapes,using the Custom Shape Tool,to create a “play” element.

The post area is finished.

Step 12:Sidebar advertisements

Now let`s create the sidebar.First area is the advertising area,situated at the top of the sidebar,to be more visible,obviously.

For this,repeat the step 8 and you should have something like this.

Now add some advertisements.Usually,here comes those of 125×125px.

Step 13:Duplicating content

Now,duplicate two or three times the boxes to have more posts and spaces for the sidebar.

Step 14:Adding categories.

Add some text in the first rectangle to create the Categories.

Step 14:Adding Recent articles

In the last rectangle of the sidebar,add some text to create an area of Recent Articles.For each article,add a small thumbnail with a blue 2-3px stroke.

Step 15:Creating the footer.

Now let`s creating the footer.At the bottom of the image,draw a rectangle with the height of 40px.Add a gradient overlay using a gray color at the top and a lighter gray at the bottom.Then add two more lines at the top of the footer:one dark gray and the other,white.If you didn`t understand till now,you`ll see in the picture what I was speaking about.

Now add some text on the left and right side of the footer to finish the layout.

The result

Now the image is finished.If you followed the tutorial,you should have something like the next image.Is a simple Wordpress theme layout,but it looks great coded,and soon you`ll see something like this on this website.

Create a fumed text effect in Photoshop

In this tutorial I`ll show you how to design a fumed text in Photoshop,using some brushes and some blending techniques.

Along the way I`ll share with you some tricks that I know which will help us creating an original text effect.

Materials needed:

Wood image for background

Daniel font

Water brush set

Smoke brush set

What are we making:

First step:Setting up the workspace

First step is setting up the workspace.So,open Photoshop and create a new document with the dimensions of 800×500px.

Step 2:Adding the background.

Now download the wood background image and add it to the main project.Because the image is 1920×1200px and our workspace has only 800×500px,try to center the wood image into the workspace.In other words,try to put the center of the wood image into the center of the workspace.

Step 3:Writing some text

Download the Daniel font and add some text to the workspace.I wrote “Our Tuts” .

Step 4:Adding some blending options:

To stylize a little bit the text,add some blending options to it.Go to Layer->Layer Style->Blending options and add a Gradient Background and a stroke.

The image looks like this:

Step 5:Add a shadow to the text:

Now I`m gonna add an outside shadow to the text.Select the text layer and Ctrl+click the thumbnail layer.The thumbnail layer is this one:

After you do this,hide the text layer.It will remain only the selected area.Create a new layer and put it under the text layer,then go to Select->Modify->Expand and set 5 into the box.This will expand the selected area with 5 px.Fill this area with a black color.

Now go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur and add a radius of 8px.Reveal the text layer and you shall have something like this:

Step 6:Add a lighter area around the text

Next I`ll show you how to add an area of light around the text,to make it more obvious.

Select the Elipse tool and draw a white area around the text.Be sure that the new layer is under the text.

Then go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian blur and blur it with 30px.Then low the opacity of the layer to 15% and you should obtain something like this:

Step 7:Add a water element

I want now to add a water element.I found a nice brush set,named SS-water and added a wave.To repeat the step,download the SS-water brush set and use the brush from in the image.Choose for it a grey color and paint it under the text layer.

The image should look like this:

Final Step:Add the smoke.

The final step is to add some smoke to the text.For this,download the smoke brush set from the top list and add some black smoke to the text under and above it.You may set the opacity a little bit lower for the smoke to make it more transparent.

Create a cool 3D text using Photoshop and Illustrator

This week I created a post with the best 50 fantastic 3D text designs I found on the internet.Today I decided to make a tutorial to show you how you can design a 3D text.

You can use this technique to make dynamic logos that look great on promotional items, business cards, and just about anywhere you put them.

Unfortunately,Photoshop is not enough to create a 3D symbol,but Adobe has another application in which you`re able to do this very easily.It is Adobe Illustrator.

So,to create the 3D text,you must have Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.First,we`re going to create the 3D effect in Illustrator and then in Photoshop will stylize it a little bit.

What are we making

Creating the 3D text in Adobe Illustrator

Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document of 750×750 px.

Select the Text tool and type in your first letter with a bold font.I am using Hobo Std Medium 72px.Fill it with white color.

Select the letter and go to Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel.

You may hit Preview to see how the letter shape is changing.

Repeat those steps for the next letters and adjust the rotation to make different symbols.

Now let`s export the letters for Photoshop.Go to File->Export and be sure to choose from the list .psd extension to be compatible with Photoshop.Then go to Photoshop and load the .psd 3D text.

Stylizing the 3D text in Photoshop

Create a new layer in Photoshop to make a background for the text and add a radial gradient overlay.

Add the text over the background.Select the Magic Wand tool,set tolerance to 2 and select the front side of the first letter.

Make a new layer above the letter layer,select the layer and fill the selection with a blue gradient using the Gradient tool(G).

Now the letter looks better.

Continue with the rest of the letters giving them different color gradients,like in the image below.

Now we`re going to create an effect for the each depth of each letter.Double click the first letter layer,and add the next blending options:

You may see how the depth of the letter is changing in a transparent blue,like in the image:

Continue the procedure for each letter,by changing the gradient color to a similar one like the letter.

Let`s decorate them a little bit.For this step,download some decorative flower brush sets and start paint inside each letter.To paint inside them,first you must hide the letter`s face and then select them with the Magic Wand tool,with a tolerance of 2pt.Watch the images below to understand better the procedure:

Paint each letter as you want.You may give them a color or a gradient.You decide.

Now download this Fog brush set,make a layer under the letters and paint some white fog,like in the image below:

Ok,now lets add some more interesting background elements.

Download this Line brush set and add some lines over the letters.I painted them over a layer situated between R and T.Change the layer mode to Soft light,decrease the opacity to 60-65% and add an Outer Glow.

To finish,put 2 or 3 shining stars over the letters.For this,download this lovely Stars brush set,paint some stars and give them an Outer glow to shine.

This is how my final image looks,after following all the steps above.

Create a hot Iphone sky scene

In this tutorial I`ll show you how to create a hot Iphone scene in Photoshop,using some stock images and brush sets.

Along the way,I`ll use different techniques like selections,masking and painting and a few little tricks to make this project more interesting and spectacular.

What are we making

For this tutorial we`ll need a couple of things,images and brush sets.You may download them from the list below,or if you have another ones greater than those,use them.

Materials needed:

Iphone image

Grass image

Floral deco brush set by ro-stock

Orange flower by Go-4-it

Pink flower #1 by sourcow

Pink flower #2 by adaae

Clouds brush set by Javier

First step:Setting up the workspace

Open Photoshop and create a new page of 1024×680px.

Step 2:Add a gradient background

Add a gradient background to the first layer with the next settings:

The image has a nice blue background now.

Step 3:Add the Iphone

Now, download the Iphone picture and with the Pen Tool create the selection of the phone.

Add the Iphone to the project.If the image is too big,resize it by pressing Ctrl+T or Edit-Transform->Scale.To resize it more accurate,hold Shift Key while you make it smaller.

Step 4:Add the grass

Download the Grass image and open it into Photoshop.

Resize the image and make sure that the grass layer is under the Iphone layer.This way,the Iphone will stay on the grass.

Step 5:Masking the grass

As you can see,the grass image has hard corners.We`re gonna try to make them softer and rounded.So,select the grass layer and press the layer mask button situated at the base of the layers area.Now press the layer mask thumbnail to select it.

Choose an Airbrush Soft Round and start masking the corners.

Don`t forget to set the foreground color to black,so you can add the mask with 100% damage.If you`ll choose another color instead,there will be traces of grass all over the mask,and we don`t want this.

Finish the mask and try to get rid of those ugly corners as much as you can.Don`t be afraid because we`ll add in the future some extra grass using a brush set.

Step 6:Paint some flowers

Download the Floral Deco brushes and select the brush nr. 22 from the list.

After you place one flower on a side,duplicate the layer,flip it horizontal(Edit->Transform->Flip Horizontal) and put it on the other side.

Select the Erase tool(E) and delete the long leaves of the flowers.This is an optional step.You may delete them or not,but I decided to erase them.

Now select the brush nr. 24 and add some pink flowers like above.Be sure that the flower layers are under the iphone.

Step 7: Add some flowers

Download the flowers (orange flower,pink flower1,pink flower2,gerbera flower) and with the Pen tool(P),select them and add them to the main project.Now,be sure to add the flowers layers above the Iphone.

Step 8 ainting some grass

Next,download the Grass brushes and paint over the grass picture.Change the color between different types of green to obtain a better result.Put the grass layer under the Iphone but above the grass.

Step 9

We`re going to add some scatered lines all around the Iphone.First,set up the brush tool,with the next settings:

Select the pen tool and create a path around the Iphone.Then right click and choose Stroke Path.Choose Brush and hit Simulate pressure.

It will appear a scattered line around the Iphone.Duplicate the layer 3 or 4 times to make the line more visible.For each duplicated layer,change the color to pink or white,or red, and move them a little bit to give the impression of movement.

Step 10: Add 2 more elements

Next we`ll add a butterfly and an air balloon.So,download those two images from the top-list,select them with the Pen Tool(P) and add them into the project,resizing them adequate.

Step 11: Clouds

Next step is to add some clouds on the background to make it look nicer.So,download the Cloud brushes and paint with a white color some clouds.

How to use the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop

Hello and welcome all to lesson 2 of our series of Photoshop basics.Today I`ll speak you about the Clone Stamp tool and I`ll show you what you can do with it.

Clone stamp Tool is used,as it`s name shows,to clone parts of the images,in almost all the cases to cover unwanted parts of the image.

The tool has some options in the options bar like:Brush,Mode,Opacity,Flow,Aligned and Sample.

Brush is for setting the desired brush with the desired master diameter for cloning.

Mode is for setting the blending mode of the new image.

Opacity and Flow are for setting the opacity and the flow for the new image.

Aligned:If this option is selected, the new cloned image will be drawn continuously even if you release the mouse button while drawing. If it is deselected, the clone will begin drawing from the sampling point each time you release the mouse and resume painting.

Sample gives the possibility to choose which layers will be submitted to cloning.

Using this tool,you can copy a portion of an image and reapply it repeatedly to cover what you want.

The entire process involves setting a sampling point in the image which will be used as a reference to create a new cloned area.In fact,the tool translate the image from the reference point to the area you want to cover.

The algorithm:

Before giving you some examples of using the tool,I`ll present you the algorithm of use of Clone Stamp tool:

First step:Set the sampling point in the image,pressing Alt+click.This will be used as the reference point for cloning.The cursor will change with a target.

Second step:Click and drag your mouse where you want to clone the image. As you draw, a cross will appear on the original image as you are revealing the cloned image.

Next,I`ll show you 2 examples of using the tool.First one is multiplying an object and second is retouching a human face.

First example:Multiplying an object

First step is to download this lens photo or use your image if you have one.

Open the image in Photoshop.

Select the Clone stamp tool from the tools box or pressing the “S” key from the keyboard.Now apply the first step of the algorithm,by pressing Alt+Click inside the lens image.

Start cloning the image by clicking and dragging in the right side of the old image.You`ll observe how the new image is revealed.For a quick finish,you may use a brush with a big master diameter(mine was 89px).

Continue the process until you get the entire image cloned.

Second example:Retouching a human face:

Next we`re going to retouch a human face,hiding some undesired spots from the face.To do this,download this girl picture and load it into Photoshop.

You may observe that there are some freckles on her face.We`ll try to make them disappear.

Let`s begin with the top left area.Set the sampling point by pressing Alt+Click,like in the next image.Then,click where the problem is.You`ll see that the area will be hided by the new area situated where the sampling point was.

Now click where is the problem:

Continue the same process for the rest of the face.I suggest you to decrease a little bit the Flow,to merge better the new cloned point with the rest of the image.I used a Flow of 70%.

Final

To show you how powerful is this tool,I`ve made a photo retouching of the girl face,using only the Clone Stamp Tool. This is how the basic image looked,before the Clone Stamp Tool process.

Before using the Clone Stamp tool:

Create an unreal underwater scene in Photoshop

In this tutorial I`ll show you how to create an unreal underwater scene using Photoshop.

Along the way,we`ll use some brush sets,blending techniques,layer masks,filters and some elements like fishes or birds.

This is how the final image looks:

Materials needed:

Underwater vegetation brush

Step 1:Loading the background

Open Photoshop and load the underwater image.

Step 2:Make the image more colourful

Duplicate the image layer 2 times and set the blending mode for the first duplicated layer to Soft light and for the second to Overlay.

Select the last layer and go to Filter->Blur->Radial blur and apply the next settings:

Now we have a nice image more colored and with a motion effect.

Step 3:Insert the car image

Load the image into Photoshop and with the Pen Tool(P) make the selection of the car like in the picture:

Cut the selection and paste it into the main project.

For the car layer,create a Layer mask(Layer->Layer Mask->Reveal All) and with a soft brush erase a little bit the bottom of the wheels to create a sink in the sand effect.

Step 4:Adding a shine effect

Go to Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options and give the car an Outer glow effect with the settings:

Step 5:Adding underwater plants

Download the Underwater plants brushes from the top list and start creating vegetation along the image margins.

Step 6:Adding fishes

Download the psd fishes and move them into the main image resizing them to have small and real fishes.

Step 7:Placing the fishes

Place the fishes to create the impression that they`re hiding into the plants.

Step 8:Creating the parrot path

Download the parrot image and using the Pen Tool(P) create the path of the bird.

Step 9:Inserting the parrot into the main image

With the selection of the parrot made,cut it and paste it into the main project.

Place the layer under the plants layer and if you didn`t make the parrot path perfect,create a layer mask and delete the white areas around the bird.

Step 9:Delete the stick on which parrot stays

Using the Clone Stamp tool(S) try to make the stick disappear.Then with the Erase Tool(E) delete the plants from the bird`s claws to create the effect of sitting on the plants.

Step 10:Adding the Sea star

Download the Sea star image and with the Pen Tool(P) Create the path of the image.

Step 11:Warping the star

Paste the image into the main project,resize it and go to Edit->Transform->Warp and warp the star to make it as it floats on the water.

Step 12:Adding an outer glow effect

Double click on the sea star layer and apply a glow effect to make it more lighter.The main image looks now almost as an underwater scene.

Step 13:Adding the balloons

Download the balloons image and with the Pen Tool(P) make a selection around them.

Add them to the main image and place them in the right of the rear mirror.

Duplicate the balloons layer and change the Hue/Saturation to create different colored balloons.Rotate them and place them like in the image:

Add an outer glow effect for the balloons to make them shine.

Step 14:Bubbles

With the bubbles brushes just downloaded from the beginning of the tutorial,create some bubbles of different sizes.

Step 15:The butterfly

Download the butterfly image,make the selection using the Pen Tool(P) and add it into the big bubble.

Then add an Outer glow and inner glow effect to make it shine.

The image looks quite finished but I`ll add a gradient over the entire image to make it more colored.I`ll use a blue gradient to create an underwater effect.

Step 16:The Gradient

Go to Layer->New Fill layer->Gradient and apply the next settings:

Set the blending mode for the gradient layer to Overlay and Fill it up only with 40-50% of the color.

Final Result

In this tutorial,I`ll show you how to create a fantasy montage in Photoshop using some stock images and brushes.The tutorial is simple but the final image looks amazing

What are we making:

Materials Needed:

Step1:Loading the image

Open Photoshop and load into it the door image.

Step 2:Cutting the door

Using the Pen Tool(P) make the selection of the door and stone floor,then paste it back.You observe that there was created a new layer with only the selection.Set the Color Overlay of the layer to white(Layer->Layer Style->Color Overlay).Now hide this layer.

Step 3:Hue/Saturation

Now we`ll make the door black and white.For this,go to Layer->New Adjustments Layer->Hue/Saturation and apply the next settings:

Step 4:Smoothing the door

Because of the cut of the door,the margins are sharp.We`re gonna smooth them a little bit to look nice.For this,create a layer mask for the first layer(Layer->Layer Mask->Reveal All) then with an Airbrush Soft Round paint the margins of the door.Make sure to set the foreground color to black before doing this step because you`ll not see any result if the color is not black.

Step 5:Create a sky

Using the Pen Tool(P) create a selection like in the next image then fill it with a light blue.

Now repeat the step 4 to smooth as well the margins of the blue area.

Download the Clouds Brushes and create a new layer.Select a white foreground color then paint with different clouds the blue area from the image.Use your skills and imagination to create a nice blue sky.Mine looks like in the next picture:

Step 6:Adding water

We`re gonna create a sea where the door was.For this,reveal the layer that you hide at step 2.Download the Water brushes and with a blue color start adding some water like in the picture.

Create a new layer.Then select another water brush and paint again using the same color.

Create a new layer and paint again with the water brush.Use your imagination.You can paint in your own style,not necessary with the brushes indicated by me.Choose whatever you want.In my image,I made like this:

Download the tree brush set.Now using the tree brush paint on the margins of the image some plants.

Step 7

Now in the center of the image is a white area.We`ll fill this area with some clouds.So,grab the brush tool,select some clouds and paint them on the image.Use white and blue clouds to create a more real image.

Step 8

Over the blue clouds,paint some white clouds like in the image:

Step 9:Adding the castle

Download the castle image and using the Pen Tool make the castle selection.After,copy the selection and paste it into the project.

Step 10

Next,applying the step 4,make the margins of the castle and a little bit from it smoother.In the interior of the castle use a brush with a lower opacity.

Step 11

Add an outer glow effect to the castle to look shiny.

Step 12:Adding a tree

Put a tree from the tree brush set near the castle.Creating a layer mask,use a soft brush to make it foggy.

Step 13:The road

Create a new layer and using a soft brush with a lower opacity draw a white road from the castle to the bottom of the image.

Step 14:Waves

From the water brush set,select the waves and with a white color,paint them on the water.

Step15:The pegasus

Download the Pegasus image and with the Pen Tool,cut the horse from the image and paste it into the project.

Step 16

Create a layer mask for the horse and apply the Step 4 to smooth the horse margins.Then apply an outer glow effect for the horse.
